The Khatau way

Craft before commerce.

Every Khatau fabric is the result of a process that hasn't changed in its essentials in over a century — careful selection, precise weave, honest finish.

I

Sourcing

We source raw fibre from the best growing regions in India — Vidarbha cotton, Bangalore silk, Kutch wool — with relationships built across generations, not procurement cycles.

II

Weaving

Our weaving combines traditional handloom techniques with modern power looms — preserving the texture and character of hand-woven cloth while meeting the volume and consistency that trade demands.

III

Finishing

The finish is where Khatau cloth earns its name. Controlled dyeing, careful washing, precise inspection — every metre leaves our facility ready for the most demanding end use.

Shreenath Traders.

Shreenath Traders is the commercial face of Khatau Fabrics — the name under which the business trades, supplies, and reaches buyers across India and international markets.

While Khatau Fabrics is the manufacturer and the heritage, Shreenath Traders is the market presence — handling wholesale distribution, export orders, and direct buyer relationships. Two names, one operation.

Our history

150 years on the loom.

Khatau Fabrics is one of India's oldest continuously operating textile businesses. The loom has turned through independence, partition, liberalisation, and globalisation — and kept turning.

1874
Founded in Mumbai

The Khatau family establishes their first textile trading operation in Mumbai, supplying cotton cloth to the growing domestic market during the boom years of India's mill economy.

Early 1900s
Silk enters the range

Khatau begins silk weaving, developing relationships with silk growers in Karnataka and Bengal that form the foundation of the company's silk programme to this day.

1947–1960s
Through independence

As India finds its industrial footing post-independence, Khatau Fabrics supplies cloth to a growing domestic apparel and home furnishing market, expanding its weaving capacity through Mumbai's thriving mill district.

1991 onwards
Opening to the world

India's liberalisation opens export markets. Khatau develops its first dedicated export range — premium cotton and silk weaves for European and American buyers — establishing the company's international identity.

Today
Aparna Khatau leads a new chapter

Under Aparna Khatau's leadership, the company combines 150 years of craft knowledge with a forward-looking focus on sustainable sourcing, premium blends, and a deeper global export programme.
